Bhangra

Bhangra is one of the fastest growing forms of international dance. However it is actually the correct term for the traditional Agricultural folk dance originating from the Punjab region in the sub-continent of India. Traditional Bhangra has always played a major part in the life of the people, and forms an integral part of the fabric of the society. The dhol, Punjabi drum, is at the root of the dance with it's pulse pounding beats that help to explain the lives of the Punjabis. Bhangra is the all encompassing word for Punjabi dance which incorporates dance forms such as luddi, dhamaal, sial koti, phumania, and many more. Garba & Raas

Garba/Raas

Garba is a traditional form of Indian dance that originated in the state of Gujarat, India. Garba is generally performed in a circular pattern, with people dancing around the deity (known as Ambama), clapping rhythmically. At every step, they gracefully bend sideways, the arms coming together in sweeping gestures, up and down, left and right, each movement ending in a clap. Modern Garba is also heavily influenced by Raas, a dance traditionally performed by men that involves the use of wooden dowels, known as dandia. The merger of these two dance forms has given rise to the high-energy dance that is seen today in the United States and throughout the world.
